#Skills For Life
As Scouts, we believe in providing young people with skills for life. That’s why we encourage our young people to do more, learn more and be more.
Each week, Scouting gives over 450,000 young people in the UK the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed. We’re talking about teamwork, leadership and resilience – skills that have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians.
We believe in bringing people together. We celebrate diversity and are part of a worldwide movement, creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures.
Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts
Our Sections meet at Bramhope Village Scout Hut on Leeds Road (not the Campsite in Bramhope)
Squirrels – Monday 5.15 to 6.00 pm (age 4 to 6)
Beavers – Thursday 6.00 to 7.00 pm (age 6 to 8)
Cubs – Tuesday 6.15 to 7.45 pm (age 8 to 10 and a half)
Scouts – Monday 6.45 to 8.15 pm (10 and a half to 14)
We meet weekly in term times and go on residential camps and trips
Our Groups are hugely popular and we have a waiting list. Click below to add your young person
When you complete the form, you will get an automated e-mail with more information and a link to a second form to complete about your young person and adult volunteering. We do need the second form completed for your young person to be registered.
Our waiting list prioritises children of adult volunteers (leaders) and those living in Bramhope Village.
Unfortunately due to the popularity of groups being on the waiting list does not guarantee a place and it is unlikely that you will get a place if you live outside Bramhope and do not become a leader. This is particularly true of Squirrel and Beaver sections.
Young Leaders
We also welcome 14 to 18 year olds to become a Young Leader in any of our sections. This is a popular way of volunteering for Duke of Edinburgh Schemes. Click on the Sign up to Our Waiting List Button above to register interest to be a Young Leader.
Leaders
To be a leader in any of our sections in Scouting (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs or Scouts) you must be over 18.
You will complete a Scouting DBS check, and must complete Safety and Safeguarding e-learning training within 30 days.
There is then further “growing roots” training covering data protection, inclusion and who we are and what we do at Scouting. You will be invited to a welcome conversation with our Group Lead Volunteer and another Scouting volunteer from another group.
Finally, you must be first response first aid trained and the County offer a full day of training, or you can do a blended version of half a day e-learning and half a day of training.
Scouting offers many more opportunities for learning and personal development, including our wood badge scheme and the permit scheme for various adventurous activities and overnight residentials.
We provide all our leaders with one piece of uniform and a neckerchief. We reimburse leaders for all expenses incurred to organise and plan sessions, events and residentials.
Being a leader is hugely rewarding and you will make new friends, learn new skills and be part of our fantastic team.
